i dont like what i am seeing on the 12z euro... this thread may need to be updated and include going into july... as the upper ridge just keeps on redeveloping... we may see at least on average highs around or above the century mark for a solid week... especially west n parts of middle tennessee... still no decent shot at rain in sight.

Re: Late June/Early July 2012 Torch From Hell!
The Euro is ugly and the gfs and its ensembles not so much. They both redevelop the ridge over its mean position this summer..the central US.
The difference between the two is the GFS has the ridge more amplified which puts us into a NW flow regime...where the Euro is less amplified but the ridge sends the flow west to east to our north.
Lets hope the GFS is more correct with its NW flow pattern it develops into the state. This pattern is one we have already seen for most of the month of June...and would be a much wetter pattern than what the Euro is showing
But here again..I never underestimate the staying power of one of these desert making beasts.

4km NAM says 100-105 tomorrow in the E TN valley with much higher amounts in western and middle TN
This model was a few degrees too cool last night for today.. but unfortunately this looks about right to my eye.
I can only assume the purple spots are 110+ degrees This is the type of weather that people in the SW put up with every summer. Im sure they would think we are a bunch of whining about this heat but damn't man...I dont live in the SW

Re: Late June/Early July 2012 Torch From Hell!
Those temperatures look reasonable to me as well. The 103 to 105 range seems possible for the Knoxville area. The high hit 101 today in Knoxville, but the 850mb temps will be warmer tomorrow and the morning temperature should have a head start compared to this morning. Even if the dewpoints are a little higher, I think the other factors could still be enough to create temperatures a few degrees warmer than today.

No work for me today unless there is an emergency. Its just going to be too damn hot for outdoor type work today
Re: Late June/Early July 2012 Torch From Hell!
The highest temperature ever recorded in Knoxville TN was 104. This record has stood for over 80 years and will be threatened today and tomorrow. I guess that makes this a once in a lifetime heatwave
Re: Late June/Early July 2012 Torch From Hell!
I think that record could be smashed, unfortunately. Not even 11:00 a.m., and we are already pushing 90F.
I guess temps this summer are going to be blazing hot--above normal--all summer long. This pattern isn't going anywhere soon, I'm afraid. Even when we "cool down" next week, we are still going to be in the mid 90's. And that forecast may be conservative as dry as the ground will be by then.
Someone wake me when summer is over.

DISCUSSION...FORECAST ON TRACK. NO UPDATE PLANNED. TEMPERATURES RUNNING AHEAD OF THURSDAYS READINGS. FORECAST HIGHS TODAY IF MET WILL BE ALL-TIME JUNE RECORDS. WILL THEY RECORD 80 DEGREES ON MT LECONTE? SON
I assume if Le Conte hits 80F, it is something that has never happened while records have been kept there. Wow. Truly historic heat wave. It's never been this hot in recorded history.

Re: Late June/Early July 2012 Torch From Hell!
The temperature just hit 100 degrees at TRI. That is certainly not easy to do. Very impressive heat wave!
Edit: I think I remember hearing earlier this week that it hasn’t hit 100 degrees at TRI since 1988. Just gives you some perspective.

From WBIR
Mount LeConte has broken its all-time high temperature record of 80 degrees ... the Lodge hit 81 degrees about an hour ago!!

I have reached 100 degrees for the first time I can recall. Crossville is at 99 and has only reached 100 once since 1954.

McGhee Tyson Airport (only 98 degrees) must be getting some heat relief from that small band of clouds. All other locations are rising as expected. The Tri-Cities and Crossville are both at 102. Oak Ridge is at 103.

102.6 at my place. Probably as hot as its ever been. Grandpa had a 101 in July 1952 in his records as the hottest he'd ever saw here.

WOW, John. That's very hot for the Plateau. Pretty amazing for a higher elevation.

Yes, where I am east of Sevierville, we are getting "filtered" sun right now. Blessing from above.

When my area, Crossville and Tri are well over 100 it's an amazing air mass.
