We had some insane temps out this way? We had a few very warm days to start the month but we also set a minimum high temp record. The further west you went the worse the temp anomalies were...because they have received very little rain vs Nashville for the month of July.

There were several 100+ days in Nashville during the first two weeks of the month... I would call that hot not warm! I also remember that the Nashville area consistently had higher temps than Memphis during the heatwave from hell.

Here is a post from my blog on July 5th that actually shows you guys getting higher temps than Memphis did.

If you live in the Southern Applachian region you're getting a nice treat among some major league heat!! The cooler temp pool tonight is due to a complex of severe thunderstorms that has moved through the area.

This wasnt the only time yall got hotter than Memphis either..it was quite the regular thing during that particular heatwave which struck me very oddly. I mentioned this weird feature a couple of times somewhere in the "summer wx discussion" thread also!

The heatwave lasted 5 to 6 days before it broke in early July. After that Nashville received significantly more rain than Memphis and was 2 degrees below Memphis in Average Temp for the month.

Wow, this is strange.. The Max, Min and Average temps are all mathematically connected. the max and min added up makes the average.(duh right? but...)

I thought it was like Max on that thingy is the high Min is the low for that day and Average is the Average for that day.. If that is correct then idk how all of them days add up perfectly...
1. high of 105 low of 81 if you add them and divide by 2 (which gives the average of the 2 numbers) it is 93.. And its the same with all 31days (some days are like rounded up to nearest number like day 22 it is averaged at 81.5 but rounded to 82.

Oh, and we had no snow the whole month of July.. Dang... (joking lol Smile )

Oh, and hi im back lol Smile

You're right Skillz...my bad. The "DEP" column is the number of degrees above or below normal. There were 24 days above normal at BNA during the month of July. Only 5 days were below normal

So is the max and min thingy work like Max was the high min was the low and average was the average of the high and low? I guess it would have to be that. Idk why they do it like that for instead of putting the actual average high for that day there instead. Guess its to confuse me or i'm just to tired to comprehend the purpose of it.

They do it 2 ways from what I can tell. There is the mean temperature which is (Max+Min)/2. Then there is the average of the average temperature. The average temperature is done by taking the average temperature over 24 hours (taking the temperature once an hour over 24 hours).

John Chritsy recently had an interesting read on just this subject.

You probably thought I was being facetious when I said they should close down NOAA for being evil. Well.....

Weather forecasting or preparing for war? The National Weather Service (NWS) seeks to buy 46,000 rounds of ammunition for semiautomatic pistols

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/post/national-weather-service-ammunition-solicitation-triggers-confusion/2012/08/14/3dc6b67e-e62a-11e1-936a-b801f1abab19_blog.html

They are not only fudging your temperature records to suit their secret agenda, they're willing to shoot anyone that tries to uncover their plot. I'd be very worried if I were you guys.

With hollow point bullets no less. The conspiracy theorist in me things the government is gearing up for civil unrest. The not conspiracy theorist in me just wonders wtf?

Sometimes, you gotta spend money to make sure your budget doesn't go down. Returning money to the government means less money the next year.

Yeah....we're just a bunch of conspiracy theorists Stove. God forbid we have questions about gov services that we pay for. I'm not a supporter of conservative or the liberal agendas. I do have a concern that you liberals will eventually take us back to the very thing we left Europe for to begin with

Looks like it was a clerical error as far as the NWS is concerned. Still concerning overall that NOAA is buying hollow points for semi-annual training.

LINK
Due to a clerical error in the federal business vendor process, a solicitation for ammunition and targets for the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement mistakenly identified NOAA’s National Weather Service as the requesting office. The error is being fixed and will soon appear correctly in the electronic federal bidding system. The ammunition is standard issue for many law enforcement agencies and it will be used by 63 NOAA enforcement agents in their twice annual target qualifications and training.

NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement works with other local, state and federal agencies and is “dedicated to enforcing laws that conserve and protect our nation's living marine resources and their natural habitat.”

While a ‘clerical error’ explains the reason for the National Weather Service being listed as the agency requesting the ammunition, some are still asking questions that need answering.

The requisitions total a request for 46,000 rounds of ammunition, an extraordinary amount given the agency's statement that it is for 63 enforcement agents. That equates to 730 rounds of ammunition per person – a great deal of ammunition for semi-annual qualifications.

Additionally, requesting hollow point bullets seems to be highly unusual given its purported use. The anti-personnel ammunition might be needed in a critical situation but hardly seems appropriate given the higher cost of it versus standard bullets.

It's not really "they" it is a few at the top that are adjusting the temperature record. Doesn't really matter though, the next 10 to 15 years will tell the tale as the AMO flips to cold, like the PDO did recently.

Since this is the closest thing I could find to a Global warming thread or lack thereof. I will post this graph compiled from NCEP/NOAA/CFSR data here.

Funny how global temps have settled back down to where they were in the 70's..its as if the AGW crowd thought temps should always stay around normal which is totally bad science..lol U Silly warmists!!! Tricks are for kids!! lapat

I don't have nearly enough beer or popcorn on hand for a "Toot science debate". Maybe we can get the old gang back together and revive THE global warming thread a little later on. I can't decide which I'm going to dive into first, that one or the Obama thread. May have to buy a keg for the latter.

Regardless I figure we need to have at least one more good throw-down before winter hits. Maybe we could even draw up some drinking game rules this time around..
