They probably couldn't fit on the chart so they started with 1982.

It's ridiculous they have that much lost data from airport reporting sites from the '96-'03 period. Really, 1.2 inches of snow from 1996-2003 at Tri? I see now why the snowfall averages plummeted.

Anytime the Chattanooga Airport reports snowfall for Chattanooga i can always add 1 - 3 inches more for my area. 2010 Christmas snow at Chattanooga Airport was 2 and a half inches. Over my way 4 inches. This happen quiet often whether it's rain or snow.

I drove through your area this weekend coming back from Chattanooga. We checked out Harrison Bay State Park and took back roads home. There are some decently high ridges through there, beautiful place!

Have always noticed that OHX and MEG have great records going way back to the late 1800s. I know that MRX has not been around for nearly as long. However, I agree. It is inexcusable for them to be missing that much data. I don't know if they are just lazy or incompetant, or just don't care about records, but it is really sad. If you google TN state snowfall record, you'll see a storm where Morristown picked up 22 in and holds the state record for un elevated areas. This happened sometime back in tne 50s. I know MRX want around then, but somebody had to be keeping these records. Where are they now?

The all time one day snowfall record for knoxvegas is 18 in which happened in Nov of 1952. I wrote a wiki article on this. You can find the thread in our winter section titled the great knoxville snowstorm of 1952

I found that read on 1952! Great storm and great write up. Looks like the early 50s was a great time to live around here if you like snow. I'd also like to read about march 9 1960, the event I mentioned above. Evidently, it was also a doozey of a storm too! Anyone have any info on it?

I dont have time to go into detail about the synoptic pattern that caused all the snow in our region during 1960..but I learned most of it from this page!! A must read if you are a winter wx lover here in east TN
