Re: December Observations

Post by windstorm on 2012-12-14, 9:19 am

We had a low of 29 sometime during the night but woke up to 33 and frost and fog today. We are reaching the middle of the month and December on avg is one of the wet months of the winter. Looking at long range models out to about December 28, 29 don't see anything real heavy. Hold on i think i did see one. Have to look back. I know all this can change but November was a little dry in my neck of the woods. Could December do the same ?? If we keep going into winter this way, this will cut into our chances of maybe a good snow or two. It early and am not saying the world is going to end but the set up of these lows systems so far are not good for snow lovers. Looks like around the Christmas time frame will be a shot of cold air but for the most part dry. Are we going into one of these winters where the cold is chasing the rain. If so don't look good. Have a good day everyone and weekend also. lapat

After being dreary and rainy all day the sky is giving a false clearing signal here in east TN as it gets dark. This is ahead of a stronger line of thunderstorms associated with a low pressure system to our north. In west to east moving systems you rarely see the sky clear off like this before the precip even gets here. wacko

Meanwhile there is a SVR watch out for this line of storms..but I expect it to be much weakened by the time it gets here

Pretty good line of storms when it rolled through Nashville. Skies clear pretty quickly behind the line.

Last nights line of storms just fell apart or went north of us. I was not home long enough to watch the line. But at 5:00 P.M. the line coming out of Nashville look pretty good. But i had to leave around 5:30 and could not watch it.

They came in pretty good here about 745 last night. Picked up some heavy rain in a sort time. Btw the 3 day total precip from sat. Night to mon. AM here was 1.33 inches. Put that with the almost carbon copy we had last week (1.4 in) and we are now making a dent into the dry spell we had run upin Nov.

0.34" of rain from the line that came through a few days ago. Low's tonight suppose to be mid 40's, but I'm at 40.3 right now althought I expect the temp to steady, and start rise later tonight.

28 with steady light snow. Very windy but a heavy dusting so far. May squeeze out half an inch by day break.

29 here with a steady light snow that the wind is just blowing around crazy. Everything has a decent coating, so I guess that qualifies a my 1st trace of snow for the year. Although, its been snowing since 10 last night. The wind is really blowing this stuff off and has made it tough to stick. Still a very pretty and welcomed sight cold

Frigid day break. Looks like the radar has cleared here but the air is filled with very tiny, wind driven snow flakes. Visibility is about 1/2 mile and I have a little over a half in on the wind protected deck.

Had flurries last night, but no accumulation, not even a dusting. Wind gust of 30 MPH today with a high temp of 40.8. Looks like a low 22 tonight depending on the wind. Wind still blowing from the WSW to W.

Had a low temp of 18 here at the house this AM. Coldest so far. The key to this was the wind quited down. 1st morning for that in awhile, lol.

Got down to 20.5 this morning. Seemed the temps stayed pretty moderate until 3:00am, then decided to plummet.

MRX believes the clouds will clear out later this evening, but I'm not too sure. I think this is another one of those scenarios like we saw earlier this season, where moisture got trapped beneath an inversion, and it just takes forever , it seems to clear out. The clouds have really kept the temps. Down today. Haven't climbed above freezing all day, as it's still 32. My 1st high temp 32 or below this winter. Assuming it doesn't go up overnight.

28 degrees here in Monterey, with rain/freezing rain to my south west and freezing rain/sleet to my west. 70% chance rain/sleet likely today, high of 44, 100% chance rain/snow low 33 tonight, 30% Snow high 34 on Sat, 20% Snow low of 22 for saturday night. Maybe the temps won't rise as high, and they can be lower so we end up with a little more wintry fun. popcorn

28 here in Morristown too Van. Officially did not get above 32 yesterday here at my house, as the temp did not go up last night. Maybe you are right Van. If waa is not as strong as modeled, we might stay cold enough for a little more than expected wintry fun. We'll see.

cloudy sky's this morning with a low of 30. Temp as of 9:22 A.M. is 36. High yesterday was 40. Looks like another cold rain for this friday. Back earlier in the month we only had about 1.23 inches of rain but have made up for it, as of right now we have had 5.79 with more to come.

MRX has a high in the 40's here today. I just dont see that happening with cloud cover over head and a cold advection regime quickly moving in.
