Ice storm 1998. Empty Ice storm 1998.

Post by John1122 2012-12-24, 5:22 pm

This day in 1998 started the largest ice storm I've ever saw. It rained from Dec 24th til the 26th and the temp was between 26-28 here for the entire event. Ended up with just over 3 inches of ice. Since then anything more than minor ice storms have stopped here. In the 70's, 80's, and 90's ice storms with > 1/2 inch ice were much more common.

Wow..I just cannot imagine 3 inches of ice. That would have to be devastating! Ive never really been exposed to anymore than a 1/4 in of ice and that was just a couple of winters ago. Ive heard stories of an ice storm back in the 80's that shutdown many places in east TN but 3 inches is crazy uh oh
