Now sleeting pretty good here too. Came out of no where. Been pouring for about 5 min. Now. Temp is 36. Evidently the dp is below freezing

And, just like that, it's over. It was coming down heavy enough to make it crunchy outside, lol. Kinda neat, as I had actually given up on any wintry weather from this system.

34 this AM here. 1st time this month the low temp. Has been above freezing. Pretty much kinda what you'd expect on average in any given year. Warm-up is coming though, so my typical January days are about to be more like March days. I digress though. Since I work in pest control, I can say that I haven't noticed much outdoor bug and rodent activity lately. Normally, when winters about to be over, the activity picks back up again, even in Jan or Feb. People discount this logic a lot, but nature knows when to burrow up and when to come out. Winter's not over yet folks.

Woke up to rain with about .05 inches of rain today. Low was 46 and as of 11:10 A.M. It's 52 with light rain. Looks like many days ahead of some rain and our weatherman is saying by the time it's over could be as much as 3 to 4 inches. smoke

Rain and clouds have definitely put a lid on todays high temps. Has only managed 46 here today, despite a high of 54 forecasted earlier today.

Re: January Observations

Post by Jed33 on 2013-01-11, 7:17 am

About 1AM this morning, I got woke up to howling winds, and the sounds of stuff blowing around everywhere. Turns out, that the wind had blown one of my living room windows open, and the blinds had knocked a plant on a stand over right in front of the window. I don't recall a wind advisory being issued for my area, but at camp creek, to, my east, winds of 50-60mph were being reported. Seems like when they have high winds from the east, I end up with high winds too. I don't have an anemometer to measure wind speed, but maybe I should get one. My heavy rocking chairs were also blown over, had to be similar winds to what camp creek was reporting.

May not Toot, but I bet if the sun comes out it will. It's already 65 in ktown. Looks like it is 57 here in mtown though. A huge difference over such a small area. I guess the warm front hasn't penetrated up this far, or maybe it did and it just didn't warm up as much.

Edit: it is now 60 here, and the sun is trying to poke through. It's more like a day in April than Jan. Who knows, maybe we'll get a day in April more like Jan. Lol it's happened before. April 1987 comes to mind. I believe it was either the 2nd or 3rd. Not sure, but I remember 7in in my hometown in MS. the same storm crawled up the eastern seaboard. Dumped snow in knoxville too. Just dont know how much. Just shows you that snow can fall even after winter's technically over

I remember that we got about 3 inches here. I had seen snfl in April but no snow on the ground in April unless u were on top of a high Mt peak. It was great. May never see that again. torch
