Its cold air damming here but its a different type of damming that occurs east of the Apps.

The question remains... will that band be rain, or will it be freezing rain???

It seems the break in precip here is allowing the ground to get cool again. Our parking lot at work is starting to show signs of ice.

30.2 here, winds from the north. Everything except roads has a glaze on it, I have only picked up .01' so far.

Temp is up to 29 with no precip, will probably fall back a degree or so when it moves back into the area.

That is how you maximize freezing rain. Keep temps in the mid 20s and get periods of light rain with some breaks. Then more freezing with some breaks. And so on. If there is comstant heavy rain, it won't adhere much bc it runs off b4 it can freeze.

Evidently, they are thinking that the band of the heaviest stuff will be freezing rain for a good part of it. This means dangerous conditions will prevail, if we stay below freezing.

John, do you think that by the time that band reaches the valley, it will still be freezing rain, or will it be warm enough for just a plain cold rain??

East Knoxville all iced up. Skating Rink. Current Temp 26.1 / Dewpoint 24. Been break in action on rain last couple hours. Appears more coming in soon. Difficult to get to above freezing any time soon, imho.

I dont expect the northern valley to ever make it above freezing today. It will be a very close call near Knoxville..the southern valley and some of the higher elevations has already made it above freezing. The lower your elevation and the more north you are the longer you will stay below freezing

I'd guess freezing rain from a row or two below knox county and parts N. I personally think it will stay freezing rain as long as the heavier precip is here.

Starting to see reports of wrecks on I-40 near the heart of Knoxville. This area was heavily treated as well. Not good.

The precip in this batch was heavy enough to wash some ice off the road in spots. Especially hills.

I am assuming you're in Morristown, Toot. Is that correct?

Pretty good precip rates still. Trees are noticeably weighing down. .20ish ice.
