Febuary Observations/Banter
Clipper train keeping cold pattern sustained due to the massive PV near Hudson bay. No end in site with these clippers out to 180 hrs clippers/screamers keep rocketing southeastward out of Canada into the TN/OH valleys reinforcing the cold air that the Polar Vortex contains!

High temp today was 27 here. After 17 here at o5f house this AM. Currently sitting at 18, so I expect about 14 overnight, due to the clouds that will prob. Move in toward morning. I figure we could go lower if the clouds holds off. But, I don't think they will.

Looking like some areas of the southern Appalachian region may possibly reach single digits tonight. Man this winter has been so warm

Beautiful skies tonight here in east TN as the clearing is taking place right at dusk. Tried to catch it with my phone camera but it doesnt do it justice!
Re: Febuary Observations/Banter
I came through a heavy band of snow on my way home from Johnson City. I’ve seen a few reports on Facebook that the ground is turning white in a few spots in that area, which doesn’t surprise me considering how hard it was snowing in that band.

We actually have the ground white here, the snow is quite heavy when you get under the popcorn, but sadly, very brief.

Yep John, I just had a pretty intense snow shower here to whitened everything up-I'm pleasantly surprised actually! It only lasted about 15 min, but it was fun!

Re: Febuary Observations/Banter
Nice burst of dime to nickel sized flakes here. Whitened everything up instantly and still coming down good. Temps in the 20's and the sun going down..might be some slick spots.
Re: Febuary Observations/Banter
After several showers we're at about 1/2-3/4ths of an inch. Looks like it's winding down with the sunset.

Not a thing here in South Knoxville. I saw a few flakes fly but that was it! Do you think there will be one more shot at something big or is this it? I got one good accumulation in January and that was it!

Re: Febuary Observations/Banter
It is entirely possible that the biggest snow has yet to happen this winter. The flow looks very active and the NAO is forecast to tank negative which is always one of the best and one of the earliest signs for widespread winter weather here in Tennessee during DJF and March!joereb1 wrote:Do you think there will be one more shot at something big or is this it?
Re: Febuary Observations/Banter
Got a half way decent dusting here from a couple of moderate to heavy snow bands.

That's crazy..micro climate must have played havoc on low level temps?John1122 wrote:It lasted about 5 minutes before changing to rain.

Re: Febuary Observations/Banter
It was just the sleet being able to fall through the dry air before melting. I have had sleet at 49 degrees in Lawrenceburg before.Toot wrote:That's crazy..micro climate must have played havoc on low level temps?John1122 wrote:It lasted about 5 minutes before changing to rain.
