Earthquake?

Post by Jed33 on 2013-02-12, 7:10 pm

At approximately 4 PM today apparently many people, including me, felt what appears to be an earthquake, with some minor aftershocks. I'm not seeing anything on USGS yet, but it was definitely discernable, as it shook the floor and rattled the building. Anyone here feel it, or have any info on it?

No..nothing confirmed yet either. I heard about it..some people said is was more of a boom and then a shake. Earthquakes dont make booms to my knowledge. Not sure..cause I never really experienced one and dont want to
lmao

Ok these noises and rumbles are still being heard and no one knows what the hell it is. The USGS says its in no way related to a earthquake. I thought everyone was full of shit until I first heard it tonight...it sounded like thunder on the ground.

I've heard some very loud rumbling noises and the house vibrated. Twice in the last half hour. Very freaky.

Looks like this stuff is happening all over, not just in East TN. Years ago there was a cave collapse near me but that was picked up by seismographs as a small earthquake. HAARP? Who knows...

Interesting article I just ran across on earth booms!

Examples of precursory brontide episodes include one preceding the Charles-
ton (South Carolina) earthquake of 1886. For at least 18 months before that earthquake there were heard scores of dull booming noises, many accompanied by shocks, near the town of Ninety-Six in western South Carolina; these continued to be experienced there for several months after the earthquake (32). Reports of these explosive sounds were even published 3 months before the great earthquake (33). And in Summerville, near the epicenter of the Charleston earthquake, loud explosive noises and light earth shocks were experienced several days before the earthquake (34), and dull booming noises, sometimes accompanying the aftershocks, continued to be noted there for more than 1 year after

Good article Toot. Lets hope though that what we are experiencing isn't a precursor to something like that here!
