I have about an inch of snow on the grass and the deck from that last band. The temperature is down to 30.5 degrees.

Things should pick back up again as the next shortwave works in, it's got some healthy returns in Middle Tennessee right now.

I've added a little more since I last checked. Btween 3/4 and an inch now. Moon is peeking out a little every now and then, that only helps the temp. Drop a little more. I figure it won't be fun going into work tomorrow morning. Hopefully, that stuff in middle tn will get over here before morning.

In 1999 there was a widespread big snow this late. It's on the NWS page now.

About 3 inches, which puts me at 16 for the season. If it had all accumulated it'd have been 6. Ending up only 4 inches or so from normal in this warm a winter isn't too bad.

So far a storm total of about 2.5 inches here with a current temp of 31 and light to moderate snow falling. Around 12 inches for the season which is above average for seasonal snowfall totals here

It has been an enjoyable winter despite the warmer temps. I'll take 12in any winter and be happy! I'm still amazed though at the difference btwn the NE section of thestate this winter, and the rest of the state.

This winter has been about location, and how high you are.

To some degree, elevation has played a role, as outside of the mountains and plateau, the NE section of the state is higher in elevation. In most any winter though, how high one is located is going to be the main determinant of how much snow falls. However, you are right about location, and this winter, we see that, as the overall storm track and position of the trough axis has not allowed storms to track in a way that would be favorable for Middle and W TN to receive substantial snowfall. For SE TN, the big storm back in January didn't quite phase right to dump on SE TN, until it got to Knoxville and points N and E. Then, it seems that the clippers didn't swing S enough to make much of an impact there. You wait, I bet next year, we'll have to watch from NE TN, as gulf lows blast Chattanooga and are suppressed enough that Knoxville N doesn't get squat, and then more gulf lows pound W and Middle TN. smartass

Gulf lows and where they form and track is a big key in SE Tenn. If they cut across south GA that is a good set up. Pulling cold down into them or it already here. W to E snows we do have a few but most of the time you have to much warm air ahead of it. Clippers if they dig down deep enough we get in on the action. But as long as i have live here which is all my life you can count them on two hands. And there are other ways we get snow but they become rare events. Most of what we have had the last two to three days have fav the mountains around us. With 1 to maybe two inches at times. But that what makes weather in the winter time fun to watch and predict. Sometimes we get snows when cold air is trap in here and slow to move out. But we are looking to a better winter in the 2013/14 time slot i hope. Another way we have gotten snow is when the cold front passes and the rain/snow is behind the main front. This is rare but does happen. smartass

This is an impressive duration event too. It's been snowing continuously here for 40+ hours. I'm looking out my door right now at large flakes falling outside. You don't often see snow on the ground and snow in the air for 40 straight hours in late March here.

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Got a bonified dusting again out of it. Temp ju dropped to 32 again. Just a little too warm today for our overnight inch to hang on down here in the valley, so I am starting over from scratch again tnite. This has got to be at least a record for most consecutive days in late March with snow.

It's amazing how the warm ground can work to melt snow so fast.

In early April 1996 we had some very heavy wet snow one evening that laid down 2 inches. It melted during the night despite temps in the low 30s.

It's now been snowing for 48 consecutive hours. Last time this happened was Christmas 2010.

Decided to check the top of the mountain above my house to get what will probably be the last look at a great accumulation this year. This is above 3000 feet. There is about 6-8 inches.
