Possible Tropical cyclone in the gulf July 4th timeframe

Post by Toot on 2013-06-24, 9:34 am

Other guidance models are now starting to pickup on what the American model has showed consistently. With the idea of another tropical system in the gulf of Mexico. The European model now seems to be the outlier with it showing absolutely nothing! How long will the european model keep missing this system? Not sure..but so far the American model (The GFS) seems to be the best with tropical systems this year. Below is a look at the Canadian model showing the organized Tropical cyclone July the 3rd. The fact that most of these models are now picking up on this system could mean an intense tropical threat near the 4th of July holiday.

I'm going to PCB on the 13th, maybe the one modeled will clear the waters out for me.

Not sure if that is a front moving into Tenn but if something does come from the GOM and moves north it could very well meet up with the frontal system and ride a long the cold front and push it to the east. But there are too many what if's right now. Thanks for posting this. Will be watching the models in the coming days. Another possible thing is if that's a cold front it could stall over our area. Will be watching and tracking the moment of this. Thanks..wash:

Still watching the gulf of Mexico for possible Tropical development around July 4th. Guidance models have been on and off with this idea but latest American model is picking system back up as it is now showing a rather weak low pressure system of the tropical type centered near Mobile bay on the 4th of July holiday. If it occurs it will likely be a weak system but even weak tropical cyclones can be significant.

Not to derail the tropical thread but locals have been tooting horn all week about pissloads of rain starting Wed and ruining our July 4th cookouts. Supposed to stick around until late Friday with anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rain.
