Winter Wx Discussion 2013/14

Post by Toot on 2013-11-30, 3:24 pm

Tomorrow is the first day of Meteorological winter so here is a general winter thread to post in!

Im not liking the pattern we are in..its dominated by the EPO and that is the only reason we are recieving cold shots so far. If the NAO/AO doesnt change up soon its not gonna be pretty this coming December

Yeah! You are right! come the middle of Dec through the end of the month may turn out to be pretty warm and dry. Doesn't look good to me for now either except for this upcoming cold shot for next weekend.

I'm watching the end of next week and weekend for not a big storm. But how the models are struggling with how dence this cold air will be. I think it will be early fri and this could mean some winter weather for west and middle tn. I don't know how far south and east the front goes because the ridge in place.  Overrunning!!!!!       cheers bom

Holy crap is that for real even here in Wilson county it looks like about 6.5-7 inches. But it probably won't happen

There will be some snow and ice. How much? There will be a heavy zone in the middle but where is the middle? Some models have it further nw and some right over us. Will be a tough call but in the heavy area maybe a few inches or a little more. I don't think that much! It would be great though.

Is the current thinking that the majority of the snow/ice threat will be to the west of East Tn?? Reason I'm asking is because later on in the week, my family and I are set to move to Pennsylvania, and hope not to run into this.

For now! It looks to be Nashville west. But that depends on how far south this front makes it before it slows Down or stalls out.  As the weather man says stay tuned!

Sorry iceman23! I should have told you that the further n or ne you go from your location out of Tennessee. Even if you miss it here you will likely hit winter precip on your  travel due to the placement of the front. From ne to sw.

Thanks!! I appreciate it, and will definitely stay tuned. Winter storm systems change every single day.

For this system it will be maybe wed evening before the models have a good handle on it. Until the northern and southern stream phase out in the Rockies should be wed. then we may know the outcome. It is hard in these type situations to really call anything. It could be a 33degree rain or a 30degree all out ice storm! As for snow I don't think so this time not for middle tn! The snow acc maps that come out don't get excited!  Time will tell.

I'd be surprised to see anything frozen in most of the state. Maybe the far northwest corner.

The models still struggle with how dense this air is. Moves it out to fast. I still say Nashville/ west will have problems sat morning and sun morning.       Very Happy

The EURO insists on burying the Western half of the state. If I lived north of 40 and West of 65, I'd plan for several bouts of winter from Friday-Tuesday. The further West, the colder and nastier it looks.
