December Observations Empty Re: December Observations

Post by Jed33 2012-12-11, 4:50 pm

Well, just as I figured, the clouds never broke up here today. It appears that it made it to 37 for a high temp, although back to 36 right now. Im now wondering if we may get stuck with the clouds overnight too, and consequently have trouble reaching the 20s. Seems like when moisture gets taped in these situations, if the sun can't scour it out during the day, it doesn't happen during the night. Makes for some busted forecasts yikes

My rain gauge clogged up, but after I got it to drain, it shows I received 1.01". Currently 32.8 and expecting a low of 27 if wind will calm. REAL happy to get some decent precipitation. rock on

Well, just as I figured, the clouds never quite cleared out overnight. However, the layer was thin enough to allow the temp to drop to 29. Right now, the cloud deck is finally shifting off to the E.

Good call Jeb. My low was 30.7. Had a steady light wind from the North all night which didn't help either.

Yeah, the wind didn't help matters either. Really kinda surprised that the cloud layer is thickening back up again a little. Its like it put the brakes on clearing out and is trying to back build a little. Hope it moves out tonight, i'd like to see another hard freeze

Im sitting at 39 at 7:54pm..Guidance suggests a low in the upper 20's. I think sky cover will allow a nocturnal low of 23-24.

Yep coach, I remember these kind of nights in s middle TN. used to live in Shelbyville at the base of Horse Mtn. All the cold air drained right off the mtn on radiational cooling night. Same thing happens in E TN too, just that I now live on top of a ridge where the wind never quits lol and the cold air doesn't drain.

Ok, finally all clouds gone, but now the wind is picking up. Out of the N at 10 mph prob. Dont know exact speed, but I can hear it inside the house. I don't understand it, but on these nights, thats just how it is. I don't hardly get frost here bc the wind doesn't ever hardly stop. I get freezes, but just no frost, lol. Btw it's now 33 degrees

26 this AM. Actually colder than yesterday, as there was no wind last night. Also had the heaviest frost , at least in my yard, so far this year.
