Re: **Big Dog ULL/Southern Slider Jan 17th -18th 2013**
Well, my first time posting here.
But, just experienced a mini-little-snow-storm, of sorts, right here in good ole Knoxville! I work at McGhee Tyson Airport and my drive home that is usually all of 25 minutes, tops. Took 2hrs this time around! By far the longest commute I have ever had from work in over 11 years at my job. Alcoa Hwy was a complete mess especially by downtown over the bridges whoa!! And I-40 downtown was almost stopped, both directions when I came through, just inched along and finally walked in the door at 6pm after leaving straight-away at 4p. I have not measured my snow fall totals yet, but I am certain at least 4 inches, easy, if not more, it is slushy as temp is currently at 32.6. I suspect big time ice troubles in the morning if tonight’s lows go as low as we think, thankfully I am off work tomorrow.
I must say too that this sight had it right when MRX and almost No-One Else did, you guys are great! Excellent work!
So until next time…Bring On Winter!!

Boys I just got home. Took me 3 1/2 hours to get from Knoxville to Halls. On a bad day it's a 30 min max drive. I cant remember the last time it snowed like that. Got around 3.5 to 4" of snow. Amazing how much stuck to the road and now they are freezing over.

Congrats everyone! Hearing about some power outages around my area. I dont know if the snow is over, nothing is falling as we speak. I do know that the trees around here are snow and ice covered, we have some branches broke off in our yard. Hope everyone enjoyed this one!!

Pretty much nearly every school system is shut down for tomorrow due to icing concerns. Even major colleges like Carson Newman/ETSU are closed, and I just got a text a second ago saying that Walters State was also closed tomorrow. IF you have to go out tonight, please be safe tonight. Snow may melt off some roads, but the backroads will likely remain treacherous and even some side roads could remain slushy. And even though a road may be absolutely clear of snow, and just have a water spot here and there, that water spot, at 20 degrees, is black ice. So drive careful

Wow, was I ever wrong! The thundersnow made this either#2 or 3 in my book of all time favorite snow storms! It was truely a unique experience!

Snowdog... I think we had a deal the other night... it was the one where I would put "there is too much dry air to overcome" in my sig if I got anything out of this event... I'm a man of my word, and I agree to doing that. Heck, looking outside of my window into the bliss of a quiet, peaceful night with snow outside with the fireplace running makes me beyond happy that I was wrong. So, I'm putting that sig as my new sig until further notice. Thanks!

Re: **Big Dog ULL/Southern Slider Jan 17th -18th 2013**
Thanks Tom, and btw, I like the dry air comment, lol. Air's not very dry out thee tonight haha. However, the skies are clearing here. With snow on the ground, prob. Reach about 21 tonight. Currently 29 here. Interesting enough, with the snow, most of it fell here with the temp at 31-32 degrees. My inlaws in bristol changed over about an hour b4 me, hence they got another inch than me. They are at elevation of 1900 or so, while my house is at 1450 ft. I imagine that if knoxville had the extra 500ft., it would look like this here.don't know that though. Actually, i'd be curious to see how much is on Crocket's ridge, right in the middle of town. That is the highest point in Hamblen co. almost 2k ft. (something like 1950) or so.

Congrats to all you folks who got a nice snow outta this. I was too far northwest for anything really great but the thundersnow was outstanding.
Heh, I also saw Toot's video on the news a few minutes ago. Todd Howell seemed taken aback to be calling him Toot.

This was definitely an entertaining system. I ended up with about 4.5 inches of snow, saw some huge flakes, and heard thunder twice. I have no complaints.
Toot,
Nice work on capturing the thundersnow.

Lol, one last comment, and I'm getting some sleep. The ice WILL be bad. Already 25 here under clear skies. I'm going with 18 for a low. A pretty hefty snowpack, I wouldn't be surprised to see btwn 15-20 tnite.

Glad some of you got to see snow, but here in Roan county didn't see squat! Well I take that back, maybe just a little bit of mix around 4pm.
