Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
Sitting at 7.04" here, and wondering if I'll break 10" this month.
Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
There a system coming around the week end. Which some models push it in and out of our area but some other models keep it more or less stationary in and around the Tennessee Valley. Have not look at the HPC model forecast to see over the next 7 day rain totals. But you have a shot with just one pop up thunderstorm. Anyway you have a good chance as well as i do. I am sitting at 7.14 inches of rain this month. Last month and a half i have had over 15 inches of rain which in turn has reduce my tomatoe crop to half of what it was last year. Not a good year for tomatoe if you live in the places where they have had to much rain in a short time. If we have a wet summer which we have had so far, will this mean a dry winter ? Maybe someone on here could pull some data to the wet summer vs winter in the following year and see how it compares. Of course summer is not over by a long shot so we may hit a dry spell. But here we are all ready a good 17 plus inches ahead in rainfall. Have a good day.

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
One other thing i wanted to add to the last post and i forgot it was we had a high of 94 yesterday making it the hottest day of the summer so far. Heat index was at one time like 102. Heat index to day will go up to a 100 plus if these clouds move out in time.

Going into the last weekend in July and first part of aug looks cool and wet. Even looks like next weekend could be talking about severe storms. Weird pattern for summer for sure. Only if it was winter it would be great! Enjoy:wk:

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
Frost in July!?! The only thing if this verifies that would compare would be 1816 aka "The year without a summer", which almost seems like a good description of this summer! Only, 1816 was more extreme in New England than down here, I believe. Anyways, I'll take this every July and run to the bank! Hard to believe that this is July

Several places in east TN broke all time record low temps this morning with widespread 50 deg temps
Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
I know this morning when I woke up, WBIR was reporting Morristown at 50. I looked at my temp. at the house and it was 50 as well! Crazy for July. Feels more like September.

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
More record lows will likely fall in the early am tomorrow as I-40 north should be in the 50's again! Amazing for the middle of summer
Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
As July wraps up i have had 19 days out of this month where some rain has fallen in my rain gauges. I have a cone shape rain gauge like the NWS uses and i have a digital rain gauge. The cone shape rain gauge recorded 7.92 inches of rain as of 7:35 A.M this morning. The Digital rain gauge showed at 7:35 A.M. this morning showed 8.38.. Over the last two months i have received over 16 inches of rainfall.

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
I dont normally start talking about local oscillations (PNA/EPO/NAO/AO until the cold season but the cold season seems to be starting early this year!
Major PNA ridging (Classic Omega Block) likely taking shape over the next week or so! This will likley mean more below normal temperatures and the continued wet pattern here in the eastern US. This pattern will likley continue through the end of meteorolgical summer! Below is the europeans idea of the upper level pattern in the extended. #yearwithoutasummer

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
While everyone else has been receiving flooding rains, I've actually been getting largely skipped since late July and up until today. Now, don't get me wrong, it has rained almost every day, but only enough to wet the ground and that has been it. Got a quarter inch Sunday afternoon, and that's the most at one time, that I've had here at the house in several weeks. That is until today, just picked up about 3/4 in in about 30mins!

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
What happened to summer? I think its done for the most part. I think the +NAO has kept a trough over us most of the summer. It came back toward neutral for a few weeks and we had that warmer than normal spell but now we are headed back towards positive territory. Probably gonna be one of the earliest falls that I can remember.
Just went out for some fresh air tonight and there is the quite a chill out an about. The NAM4 going down to the high 40's for nocturnal lows in some northern and the mountainous locations. I cant remember any temps this cool during the first two weeks of August. Brrrrr!!

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
Yeah, I agree Toot! It just hasn't really felt like summer at all this year. I'm scratching my head in disbelief that not once did we (at least NE TN) hit 95 degrees or higher this summer, and only 4 or 5 times did we crack 90 here. Not quite ready to make a bold statement that the 90s are done for the year, but as anomolous as this year has been, I wouldn't be surprised. This is just a very, very unusual summer for sure!

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
I think the highest temp this summer here has been 94 or 95. With only about 8 days 90 plus in July. But there have been many days with 89 degrees but this is at the airport so you could add them in as 90 degrees days. July was 2 plus degrees below normal. Today it is cool and cloudy with a North wind and it is nice. As of 10: 55 a.m. it is 69 degrees. Let's just hope someone don't turn the heat on this coming winter for all us snow lovers.

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
I know Snowdog, it really is crazy that the end of summer looks like it will be the hottest yet. We might even crack 90 again here. I'm sure middle and W TN will, as they will be closer to the Hp ridge axsis. MRX says mid 80s to low 90s in this afternoons AFD. Basically, the further W you are the warmer you will most likely be. Thier AFD also hinted that the axsis looks to retrograde back west enough by middle to end of next week to put the area in NW flow and subject to mcs activity. Time will tell I guess.
