Winter Wx Discussion 2013/14

The ratio is defined by the water content in the snow, not by the temperature of the snow (except when it reaches > 32 F and melts of course). For example snow on the ground is going to have the same moisture whether it 30, 20, or -10 F. On average, the ratio is 10:1 meaning for 1 inch of rain, on average you should get 10" of snow. This does not count radiational heating or evaporation that almost always occur. You might be thinking that the colder it is when it snows, the lesser amount of water is in the snow which is typically correct.

Anyone jump in here if I'm not correct.

BTW, I had 2.01" of rain for the storm total.

JMO but I think overall winter is about to pack it's bags and go home till next year.

Well i know one thing it has left the building here in the SE and move out west and midwest and of course NE.

To be honest just looking at the models i'am tired from work and this winter. Not saying I won't end up with some type of snow before the season is over. But I'm ready to start cutting grass and swimming. The last two storms I set at 33 to 34 and over 2" of rain. This weekend storm that may or may not come I get nothing! The mon-tue storm it will be. 33 and rain.

Well guys from the looks of things right now. If I get nothing from fri-sat morning or mon-tue time frame as far as snow. My window of opportunity is closing fast. It looks like the warm is coming middle of the month on!

Got a nice of dusting of snow on the ground here in Newport tonight

We had light snow here for about two hours @ a temp of 36. This little weak system is now moving out.

We had about 8 inches of snow. What was weird was around 1 am it was still snowing and fog settled in. It created a type of white out effect. I am right here at Norris Lake. It was quite eerie.

As of feb 13,2014 according to USA Today snow was on the ground in 49 out of 50 states. Only state without snow on the ground was Florida ..

Picked up another inch of snow here last night from the little clipper like system..gahhh!

I would like one more before it is all said and done. And everyone knows anything can happen in March. Not saying it's going to happen .. P.S. I can do without the power loss.

I know there may be a couple shots left in the chamber for this winter. But so far it has been crapy as far as snow totals for me I have had maybe a little over an inch so far. I'm hoping before winter blows it's load there's one with my name on it. The warm up will be short.

I was looking at the euro total snow accum it looks to show state wide I40 north. Haven't had time to check anything else does it still look good vfl?

I am sitting on my back porch with a tshirt and jogging pants. My car said it was atleast 75 degrees today. Awfully, warm for February 20th. The wind is blowing and its still not that cold.

Tornado watch out for many county here in Chattanooga and other area until 5A.M.

Well we had a 1.50 inches of rain. More than that i think because the wind was blowing so hard. Est winds at 40 mph. Do not like severe weather. Like to see a good thunderstorm build up in the summertime to cool thinks off for a little while. Well with only about a week left of Feb, it has been a good month for people living in E Tenn as far as snow and some cold . I will start a thread on what people may think about the month of march coming up. Hope everyone was safe during the storms last night. One other thing. What is the thinking on the last week of Feb.? Snow ? Cold ? tell me what you think ? GFS show colder for the last week. But our local weathermen have us in the mid to upper 40's the last week of Feb............

I had 1.18 inches of rain, and recorded a wind gust of 35 MPH. I was under a severe thunderstorm warning early this morning, but I don't believe the storm reached severe limits.
