Hello everyone!

I'm Jimmy and live in Gate City, VA. Yes I don't live in Tennessee but I'm just a stones throw away from the border. I would say about 90% of the weather comes from Tennessee anyways. I'm have the same climate as Kingsport and most of the Tri-Cities. I used to post over at Accuweather a long time ago and I post some at AmericanWx, but not much. Hopefully this winter is leaps and bounds better than the last and it does look like it will be, but probably not as good as the epic 09/10 winter and the good first half of the 10/11 winter.

Hello everyone,

My name is Jeff and I currently live in Central Florida. I have posted for years over on WU and on several other weather boards. A little background about my self. I am a retired Emergency Management Director in Central Florida. I have directly handle several Federal Disasters including Hurricane Erin, Charley, Francis, and Jeanne. Also other events like the February 1998 Tornado Outbreaks in CFL and the 98 Wildfires. The reason for my screen name emcf = Emergency Management Central Florida and 30 was my Badge number. I was born out side of Nashville and both side of my family lives anywhere from Memphis metro to Nashville, Knoxville, Mountain City and so forth and so on. I obtained degrees back in the very early 80's from FSU and studied Meteorology and Public Administration. My love is all forms of weather events but primary Winter and Severe patterns, but Tropical runs a close third.

I have followed this blog for awhile and as far as weather blogs goes, everyone here, for the most part gets along. I have lurked for a long time.

Oh, I agree with Toot on the up coming winter events. All the signs and signals are falling into place. As soon as the snow starts falling more in the Central Tenn area, I will be there. An yea, that makes me a wishcaster, LOL. I love the snow!

Hi everyone. My name is Nathan (29) and I live in Baxter, TN near Cookeville. I grew up in Sevierville and went to high school at Gatlinburg-Pittman. I, like you, am obsessed with the weather and like to follow the models. I am currently a band director and a bi-vocational pastor. I have 4 kids (5,4,3, 7months) and I don't sleep much. My wife stays at home and some days looks like this affraid gaah when I get home.

I like the atmosphere on this board more than others I have visited. Some that I've seen are just plain snooty.

I look forward to our interaction.

Post by memoriesof85&93 2013-01-14, 9:11 pm

Hi Everyone,

My name is Kevin and I currently reside in Knoxville, east side of town.

Orginally from up and around the Cumberland Plateau area, born and raised. From the time I can remember, always loved snow or any wintery weather. Can remember my first digital thermometer, how exciting that was to wait for it to hit the magical 32 and waiting for the wintery precip to stick! Would stay up all night in wonderment, just waiting for that first flake to fall or ice to begin, even in teen years. That sense of wonder has never abated and now, at even almost 40, here I am in wonder of the weather. I remember very vividly the winters of 85 and 93, (hence my username as it just seemed appropriate) as those will live in my mind, I think forever. Having been on the cumberland plateu for both events, they were extremely intense and I am always waiting & hoping that I can re-live them again, even though now living in the great valley seems to temper those hopes, I can still dream that just maybe the right set-up will happen and presto we have will ignition! popcorn

Oh, I am no expert, just a guy who loves the weather and is hopeful of learning more & more about the intricacies of it everyday.

I ran across this site a while back and now almost find myself addicted to it, checking it multiple times per day and decided it was time to join up and be a part.

Thanks and just glad to be here!

Kindest Regards,

Kevin

Hey Kevin..glad you joined buddy and cool username! wash

I was here in east TN on both of those winters too but I dont remember many details about the winter of 1985. I do remember realizing as a young kid (about 7 yo) the temps were several degrees below zero tho. Thanks for the nice first post Smile

Hi Toot,

Nice to make your acquaintance and thanks for the kind words.

I remember the winter of 85, I was 12 and me and my dad were iced in at home for a week with no electrical power and my mom was out of town, thankfully we had a gas heating and cook stove and my grandparents across the street to help us. That was the ice storm to remember as even the tall weeds would easily break over just by touching them due to the ice & cold, we had old big dial type analog thermometers at the time and it was around -40 at night cold, if memory serves. It was something and just a site to behold, a winter wonderland of just ice on everything. And in 93, I was with my mom and I remember my car was totally buried in a snowdrift, stuck at home for over a week, simply Amazing stuff indeed!! wash

By the way...I really like all of your smiley icons...They are Great!! sunny

Well I have never really introduced myself. My name is Troy and I'm the Director of plant operations for CLSCC. I have been here since the forum began and it has made a huge difference for me at work to be able to prepare the campus for upcoming weather. I don't post much but I read daily and I appreciate all the great info. For those wanting 1985 cold, TN isn't setup for that and it was awful the first time. If it could freeze it did and I never want to work in that kind of cold again. cold

I live in Carthage, which is about 50 miles east of Nashville. I've enjoyed reading this site for 6 months and finally decided to say Hi.

I'm a bit intimidated by the meteorology jargon, but I enjoy trying to decipher your discussions.

So, I just wanted to say THANK YOU and please keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your expertise and insight to those of us who love snow but can't read weather maps. Smile

Hi Everyone. My name is Susan Wolfe and I live in Kodak, Tennessee. I teach Business Technology at Cosby High School. My family has lived in this beautiful area for 6 years, moving here from Port Charlotte, Florida, not long after Hurricane Charley hit. I had never seen snow before moving here, so this board is a lifesaver for me. Thank you for all the knowledgable and informative posts!

Hello My name is Rene. I was born and raised in Tennessee. Lived in Florida for many years. Went through several hurricanes. Found the forum and have been lurking quiet some time. Decided to become a member when the graphics were going to be hidden from non members. Way to bring us out of the closet LOL. I am older than most of you all but I am learning a lot from you young people. I love snow and hope it snows a lot in the next two days in Campbell County.

Hello everybody,
I've been watching this forum since last summer and have always been a weather lover. I love reading what you guys post, though I might not understand everything lol. I'm definitely learning more about weather. I'm also a music teacher like nhickman above (who I went to college with, *small world*, hi Nathan!) and thus love, love, love snow. Keeping my fingers crossed for lots of the stuff Very Happy

*edit*
I guess it would be nice to say my name to, Robert. Smile

Well Robert, its excellent to have you onboard! Never feel like any questions are stupid. I used to ask some.. ok ok.. I won't lie.. a TON of questions, and I always found that people were more than willing to answer them as long as I was willing to put in the effort to learn. We look forward to discussing the weather with you, and also answering any and all questions not only from you, but also from everyone here too!
