Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
I suppose this is only loosely related to weather since the seeds were frozen in ice, but it is incredibly interesting.

Looks ugly. lol Were's the scissors when you need them. *clip* *clip*
Joking lol but I guess its cool that something can live that long. Especially as just a seed. But when frozen everything last like forever. If everything was done correct.

Aww, it's cute!! Don't you dare "clip, clip" it, eggs!
I bet they've got some frozen cavemen somewhere too.
Look! One got out at Walmart!!

There are lots of interesting species to be discovered at Walmart. For example, here is one with back tits:
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
My eyes! If that's the back....what does the front look like? Oh, Stove. We could fill a thread with 500 pages of pictures of people from Walmart. Seriously, when I'm having a bad day, I go to the People of Walmart website. Instant pick-me up. Now, if they had a People of Target website, I might be in trouble.
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
That's funny, my wife and I discuss the demographics of those two stores every time we go to Turkey Creek. Bottom line, you are far more likely to find insane people at Walmart, and far more likely to find good looking women at Target. Facts are facts. Someone should write a dissertation on that subject.
(It goes without saying that I prefer Target. Lucky me, they are building a new one over by me at Northshore/Pellissippi Parkway).

Also, only us could take a thread from 32,000 year old arctic plants to back tits. Yay!
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
Astute observations there, Stove. lol. I love Target. If I'm not home, I can be found there. But I have to go to the one in East Knoxville. Yours at Turkey Creek is far superior. Why is that? Everything in West Knoxville is better. Do we rednecks in the East not deserve to have good stores too? Don't get me started on East vs West. My one comfort is that the name of your best shopping center has the stupidest name ever. Who thought "Turkey Creek" was a good name?Stovepipe wrote:That's funny, my wife and I discuss the demographics of those two stores every time we go to Turkey Creek. Took the words right outta my mouth. Yep. Only us fine folks of Tennessee Weather Spot.
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
If you notice, they named all the streets over there after the wildlife they killed off when they developed that area and destroyed the wetlands.
Glancing I see Heron's Nest Rd, Snow Goose Dr, and Turkey Dr. I assume Turkey Creek is the creek there that runs into the river near Concord. You can read about the development here:

On the west side, that's how we roll yo!

Although local governments love Turkey Creek's tax-generating power, the development has not been without controversy. Environmentalists have railed against potential damage to one of the last wetlands in the county, homeowners associations have demanded protection from encroaching urban sprawl, and a handful of elected officials has questioned spending tax dollars to benefit private developers.
On the west side, that's how we roll yo!
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
Figures. Kill off all the animals and name some streets and developments after them and it's all kosher. Still a stupid name.
Seriously, East Knoxville is dying. Our mall has stores leaving every month. It's a ghost town. No one wants to build anything out here. And the stores that are left don't have new inventory and the buildings are becoming dilapidated. My Target is the only place that's good to go to. It makes me sad to see the area I grew up in get so bad.

Well, you do have your own personal shopping basket! LOL

You east side people get the zoo and the fairgrounds so there's that!

You know sprawl is interesting. At one time West Town was THE place be. New anchor stores were spawning all kinds of strip mall shops, the place was booming. Then Turkey Creek came along and now West Town is really in a state of decay. The strip malls are dying. That whole area around Downtown West is becoming vacant. All of the decent businesses moved west. The county just can't sustain the level of retail that would let both areas thrive. Yeah people go to the mall and the movie theater but the rest is becoming a ghost town. I'm exaggerating a bit but not much.
Another funny thing about Turkey Creek. It was designed to be pedestrian friendly and the thought was that people would walk from store to store. LOL the reality is most people drive to Walmart then get back in their car and drove over to Pet Smart. Everyone is too damn lazy to walk.
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
Only a West Knoxvillian would try to placate an East Knoxvillian with comparisons of the Zoo and Fair to the wonder that is West Knoxville.
The Zoo is awesome but the People of Walmart have nothing on the People of The Tennessee Valley Fair. Nothing better than to walk around eating a foot long corn dog with the smells of the petting zoo and sidewalk puke to stimulate your senses, and the added bonus of cat calls from carnies. (j/k -I do love the Fair. But you have to go on the first weekend if you're gonna eat their food--Trust me on that one)
Go East! That's how we roll.

LMAO! West Knoxvillians love em some Tennessee Valley Fair. We like hog jaw! We like pig feet!
Nothing like buckling over from dysentery after a 2nd weekend belly full of fair food. Sadly I've never had the pleasure of a carnie cat call though. You east-siders also have House Mountain! I'd trade Olive Garden, Best Buy, and Bed Bath & Beyond for a House Mountain!
Here's me dressed as an East Knoxville Redneck one year for Halloween:
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
For SHAME!! How dare you rip off my family's signature style! I'll have you know we sport mullets...long and luxurious. And we drink Miller lite or Pabst blue ribbon. Get it right!!
But you are correct about House Mountain. My daughters take Horse riding lessons at House Mountain Horse Farm at the foot of House Mountain. http://www.housemountainfarm.com/ One of the most beautiful areas of East TN.

Nice! I didn't realize there was a horse farm there. May have to get the kids in some lessons when they get a bit older, that is cool.
That one overlook up there is awesome. The view of the farmland in Corryton is incredible. Might have to take me a hike up there again soon.

Oh, man. It's so cool there. They have about 30 horses...but they ain't the kind that just go around in circles. Some are honest to goodness wild stallions. Haley got bucked off about a month ago. So beware, they gotta be big kids who ain't afraid. We still working on Emmy and she's 6. Once she saw her sister get thrown, she won't get back on. It's a work in progress.
Re: Dead for 32,000 Years, an Arctic Plant Is Revived
Woodrow Call: Things sure have changed since the last time I was here. It's all growed up.
Gus McCrae: Of course it's growed up, Woodrow. He killed all the Indians and bandits so the bankers could move in.
Woodrow Call: Only a fool would want the Indians back.
Gus McCrae: Has it ever occurred to you, Woodrow; that all the work we done was for the bankers? Hell, we killed off everybody made this country interestin'!

Oh, Lawd. Lonesome Dove. Another topic that I could go on and on about. I'll spare you, but here's one of my favorite parts.
Eddie: You beat all, Dan. I ain't never heard of hanging dead men.
Roy: Dan hates sodbusters.
Eddie: Hates their guts and livers.

Great great series. I've seen the original several times but the new one (the prequel?) only once. When I get through Breaking Bad, Dexter, and the new Eastbound and Down I may have to watch em both again.
Give us another day or two and we'll work our way back around to Arctic Plants!

No,No, NO. Streets of Laredo (sequel) was junk. Even the book was stupid. You mean to tell me that Lorie ----ended up this this guy, Peaeye?---
No way in hell. If they ever try to remake this series, I swear on my hair, I will picket and protest.
Don't forget Game of Thrones. You got til April 1--the new season.
