Re: May Severe Weather
We need rain so bad in our area, I am getting concerned about drought here.WxFreak wrote:Well, the front is still going to be hanging around for several more days--going back and forth over the area. Still a chance for more interesting weather. Hope it just stays away from a certain campground in the Smokies.

Adam2014 wrote:There was a tornado touchdown in franklin,TN. Lawrenceburg has been spared again for the time being. We had a lot of anvil debris that choked the storms of instability. Storms have indeed fired away from the frontal boundry which is incredible to see. Like WxFreak said they are firing around the old outflow boundry.
My friend that lives in Franklin just texted:
Dude....Becky said the tornado hit the park next to our house!!! Flipped a bunch of cars and injured a mom and her kid!
He's out of town on business travel and was reporting what his wife heard. Crazy.
Re: May Severe Weather
Just a few rain drops here. I am sure glad I have not put alot of $$$ into my yard. No weeds but mostly burmuda grass. The way this year is going. If you have a sprinkler and fescue grass. You are going to go broke by the end of summer. There want be any grass growing or leaves left on trees at this rate. My neighbor is already complaining about his water bill to keep his yard nice and green. In the summer months it runs $350-$450 a month. Usually for a couple of months (July/August). He said way to early for these high bills already. My yard is barely growing. In past springs I was mowing twice a week. Very worried about these dry conditions already.

Re: May Severe Weather
Parts of Sevier Co. had baseball size hail with the early afternoon cluster of thunderstorms that developed over Knox Co and moved southeast. Damage to cars pretty extensive over parts of Sevier Co according to WBIR. Dodged a bullet with that one.

Looks like you have the better chance of rain today--you are still south of the front.

I still haven't bought into it yet, I imagine they will fire to the south of my area.WxFreak wrote:Adam2014 wrote:We need rain so bad in our area, I am getting concerned about drought here.WxFreak wrote:Well, the front is still going to be hanging around for several more days--going back and forth over the area. Re: May Severe Weather
This could spell trouble in the long range...that would be a strong cold front that runs into an almost tropical one
Re: May Severe Weather
As long as we're not blown away by a tornado/squall line, I'm all for strong cold fronts. Keep that Bermuda High outta here.

Re: May Severe Weather
Wow. Hate that for all the peeps on vacation. I'm sure they didn't expect a Texas sized hail storm while staying in Gatlinburg.
One thing of note--this storm hit Knoxville before traveling to Gatlinburg. It had very heavy rain, but not the hail (at least I didn't hear of any reports of large hail from Knox Co.) Close call.

Re: May Severe Weather
Just got back in from a 4 mile walk. Saw some major league cumulonimbus clouds over toward the mountains. Even saw some lightning on the way home. I was actually viewing severe thunderstorms over near Asheville. Too bad they are heading east--away from us.

We talked to some people this weekend that live in the area and experienced this storm. They conveyed to us that the hail was baseball or slightly bigger size. Took out an entire fleet of police cars. The woman in a store that we talked to was cussing after finding out her insurance wasn't going to adequately cover the damage on her car that was basically destroyed.
The insane hail core that Math/Met posted a radar image of the other night was not playing around.
Re: May Severe Weather
Kansas has a small tornado outbreak going on right now, small cluster of storms that have tornado warnings and have very good rotation signatures.

Re: May Severe Weather
well we start a new month today, may can be our stormiest period of spring... but i doubt pattern changes to such...looks like a long boring summer weather pattern shaping up around our neck of the woods...maybe just maybe we can get some nice mcs type systems or better yet we can get a derecho... been awhile since we had one of those... i starting to lean toward a lame cane season also... i will get back with details later on that.

Re: May Severe Weather
Yep this is pretty much the same lame wx pattern we have seen since winter with some heat thrown in the mix now. I dont think this pattern can hold much longer...but thats just like... my opinion man!!
Re: May Severe Weather
MRX is saying there might be some isolated big hailers today. I cant get on the mrx site to get their actual AFD tho
