Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
Well Summer is just around the corner. In fact it starts at 1:04 A.M. June 21. Here another fact about summer. Midsummer Day
Although Midsummer Day occurs near the summer solstice, or what we think of as the beginning of summer, to the farmer it is the midpoint of the growing season, halfway between planting and harvesting, and an occasion for celebration. Although it's also the feast day of St. John the Baptist, it features pagan traditions such as bonfires, fire walking, and a carnival atmosphere, all of which took place on Midsummer Eve. Certainly, it's a night of magic and soothsaying as well, for as Washington Irving said, this is a time "when it is well known all kinds of ghosts, goblins, and fairies become visible and walk abroad." After Midsummer Day, the days shorten. In Lithuanian tradition, the dew on Midsummer Day was said to make young girls beautiful and old people look younger. It was also thought that walking barefoot in the dew would keep one's skin from getting chapped. It was customary to honor all men named John on this day by fixing wreaths of oak leaves around their doors. This is usually done in secret, and John must guess who did it or catch the person in the act, in which case he must give the person a treat. P.S. I don't think i will wait up for Summer to begin.

So as we head deeper into summer will the blocky pattern last? Will the fronts continue to make it this far south? Next weekend looks like some big storms then a cool down! Very interesting summer for me weather wise the kind I like! Not to hot! Yet!!!!!!! Ready for fall. Anyway haven't been around for while works crazy in the summer. Good to post.

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
Happy summer everybody..The plateau area has been getting quite a bit of rain over the last few days. Just a little elevation (lift) has made a big difference on where these afternoon storms have been firing and the plateau area has definately been the hot spot lately. Here is a look at the precip departure from normal ove the last 90 days..its been a wet one

the pattern should continue as ridge keeps migrating further west of us... all models showing a nice deep trough over us by next weeks end... sould allow us to get into some nice mcs action with the nw flow

Yessir..we definately could get in on quite a few MCS's with the look..strength and orientaion of that western ridge on guidance models. GFS pumps that baby up to 597DM!tennessee storm09 wrote:the pattern should continue as ridge keeps migrating further west of us... all models showing a nice deep trough over us by next weeks end... sould allow us to get into some nice mcs action with the nw flow

Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
Sitting outside tonight and I can't remember the last time air was so heavy and wet. Don't know how bad the storms will be but the air feels ripe for them.

Had the same exact thought just a few mins ago..it does feel quite ripe. Will be interesting to see exactly where complex tracks. That stuff forming back in western KY aint no joke!VFL wrote:Sitting outside tonight and I can't remember the last time air was so heavy and wet. Nothing better than laying in bed at 2am and hearing a transformer fry from the inside out
Re: Summer 2013 Weather Discussion
I notice last night some of the tops of those thunderstorms were 40,000 ft plus. We got zip, nothing. They either fell apart or went mostly NE of me. They did issue a severe thunderstorm watch around 11:00 P.M. till 3 or 4 in the morning . But nothing here.
