Possible April Freeze
Been watching guidance and some of the ensembles are starting to look scary for blooms and early gardens

Hopefully we can keep some clouds in the area and maybe just get down into the upper 30s. We are going to need something if this is going to happen. I have been watching it also.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Unbelievable. If memory serves, this is the same time frame we had the devastating freeze of 2007 after the unusually warm March of that year. I was hoping I would never see such a spring as that again in my lifetime. It was a month before the trees around the house recovered from that one.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Ya know what they say...better late than never. Believe it or not, I was just now able to get HIGH speed internet access out where I live, so I do a great deal more browsing these days. Glad to say bye-bye to dial-up and cruise the information super highway in something better than a Yugo.
Back to this possible freeze--is it looking as bad as 2007?

Welcome to high speed internet...im sure its a world of difference to you....lol
Anyways.....An intense cold/cool shot does look likely near the first of April... but it looks to be short lived...hard to say if it will be a hard freeze or just a light frost at this point.
Re: Possible April Freeze
Not surprising. Only takes one night of freezing temps, and the damage is done, unfortunately. Northeast U.S. got hit last night with a hard freeze, and already they are saying apple prices could go up. They have been as warm as us here, and the trees are way ahead of schedule. Now we'll have a freeze in the south, and the sky is the limit for fruit prices. Sure hope the models change as time passes. I mean, they've been advertising cold shots in la la land all winter...and it never came to fruition (no pun intended).

Re: Possible April Freeze
At this point a Hard freeze is a very low probability but a light frost does look quite possible
Re: Possible April Freeze
I think most deciduous trees can handle a touch of frost. Not sure about fruit trees, though. They are pretty tender at this stage.
In 2007 we were deep in the 20's for at least 8 hours, two nights in a row, during the early April cold outbreak. The damage was widespread to even the hardiest of trees. Glad to hear it won't be a repeat of that.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Dang. I already have blooms on my roses. It can't be doing this junk right now. Tsk..Tsk...Winter had it's chance to be cold.
Plus, I've already put up all the winter garb and pulled out the warm weather stuff. I'm over you now, Winter. Be gone.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Well there go my speedos, which might not be a bad thing. There are however quite a few blooms on some of the trees already. Çold air stay away till next year.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Been watching the forecast for frost potential. Next week doesn't look too bad so far. I see lows down into the mid 40's by Wednesday. We'll see how it pans out.

Re: Possible April Freeze
The 0z Euro also has the colder look with a big ridge out west. Hope this is the first signs of a pattern change
Re: Possible April Freeze

There would likely be a substancial severe system that ushers that cold air in if it's legit this time.
Re: Possible April Freeze
Until I see something within 5 days, I'm skeptical. The euro and gfs have both been advertising, then pushing out troughiness in the 5+ day range for a while.
