Does anyone else find the Freeze warning MRX has had out the last two days hilarious?
They said they talked to a local grower who informed them the growing season had started here so they put it out.
Any local grower who puts out frost/freeze sensitive plants in Mid-March anywhere North of Chattanooga is just asking for their stuff to get wiped out.
Here, you're asking for it if you put them out before May 5th.

Yeah, it is a bit peculiar. The only thing i've seen blooming besides daffodils is pear trees and cherries, and those are mostly only blooming in town. they have already been damaged by the feezes we had last week when it got down to 19 and the last few nights here. Otherwise, nothing is in danger of being killed here bc it's still dormant. They are definitely a strange group of folks down at MRX.

The GFS has another potentially wintery time coming in about a week.
It's definitely forecasting some fairly cold temps in the 168+ hour range.

I saw that on another forum earlier. The winter that just won't give up. Another repeat of "The year without a summer"???
Better said, the winter that got started late and now doesn't want to give up

LOL..its funny you mention it. It was just put out here this morning. Ive been laughing about it all day Its been subfreezing here for two nights in a row now and has already killed some stuff like Bradford pear blooms. If anyone here had any plants out they would have already been killed!! You know MRX they are quick on the drawJohn1122 wrote:Does anyone else find the Freeze warning MRX has had out the last two days hilarious?

There isn't even anything bloomed here. My actual fruit trees aren't even budding yet. The cold month has kept everything well in check from blooming early.

18z has a very moist LP in the central GOM and 0 850s lurking over parts of East Tennessee followed by a good cold shot.
Don't look for sustained spring anytime soon. 10-15 days of +PNA and -NAO are on tap. That should keep it stormy and below normal here.

those teleconnections would be a killer if it were in late december to mid february for a wild winterJohn1122 wrote:18z has a very moist LP in the central GOM and 0 850s lurking over parts of East Tennessee followed by a good cold shot.

If it were Decemeber/January we'd have 6 inches of snow on the ground and the high the last two days would have been in the 10s and lows 0 or below.

The NAO right now is still a perfectly valid indicator of snow and cold as evidenced by the snow/cold that just hit. It has been a great forecasting tool this winter starting about mid January to current
Re: Spring wx discussion 2013 edition
LOL..euro/gfs/cmc are all suggesting a wintry type of system around the April 3-5th timeframe. Un freakin believeable

The 12z Euro has something very similar to that graphic around 120 hours.

Re: Spring wx discussion 2013 edition
Local weathermen here are not saying anything about the S word. They just say we will have one or two days of cooler weather after the rain and then start warming up. I guess it time to get into spring.

Re: Spring wx discussion 2013 edition
Is there still a likelihood of snow 4/3 - 4/5, or is the thinking now it isn't happening?
