Snow is over here. 3/4th of an inch fell. Snowed lightly for a couple hours. Had about 1 hour of heavy snow where the 3/4ths fell. Not looking like any more will fall tonight based on radar.

Clipper #1=EPIC-FAIL that is. I got up at 3 this AM to see it was snowing pretty good, but not sticking. Ended up with a dusting that has since blown away or melted. A very far cry from the 1-2in even MRX had forecasted. Yet another clipper fail. I know there are several more in line, but thermals due to waa and a modifying arctic airmass on sat just dont have me hopeful for anything out of these clippers here at least. I think our next chance of something is around the 10th-14th. In other words, I ain't boardin' any more trains labeled clipper!

Looks like around 2 inches here in Erwin! Bring on the next clipper!! MRX shows maybe an inch from it. This winter has been much better here than last winter.

Dusting here..but the wind has pretty much blown it away. Im happy tho. To tell you the truth I was rooting against accumulating snow so I wouldnt have cabin fever again this weekend. Cant believe how cold it is tho..currently 16 degrees affraid

This next clipper is looking juicer by the minute. 12z NAM has a swath of .25-.50 over alot of the area and even higher in the mountains.

Can't get a handle on this system! GFS one thing NAM another. Really don't think the warm nose comes as far north and east as shown. Also how heavy the precip will be? Could be something sneaky! yikes

i cant believe i got a solid three quarters of inch with last nites quick passing clipper... 20 minutes it looked like a mini blizzard outside... this clipper coming up later tonight early morning doesnt look as good here. we already have a south wiind now after a high today of 29... but temps looks to slowly warm after midnite... might start out as a light freezing rain, but it should switch to just plain ole light rain as temps keep on warming.

Lol Vann..I tried to decipher your post and fix it but I had no luck with some parts of it so I left it as is. Those phones can make the best typist's message's unreadable. It happens to me quite often..I hate trying to post from a smart phone

It will..its a stronger and more organized clipper than this last one and the southerly flow out ahead of the cold front will be stronger... meaning stronger warm advection before frontal passage. This will make the rain band wider and it will take longer to change over from rain to snow than it did this last one. It will be a rain to snow situation for the whole state unless you're on the Plateau or in the smokies!

Yeah! Your right but looking at both models the NAM and GFS. They are totally different! Also it is setting at 24 at my house. I live to the west of you guy's NOAA forecast for me is snow and sleet after 3am and snow and sleet til noon. Then rain. With a high of 42. So if precip moves in early do you think it will get to low to mid 40s? Thanks

Not really..the gfs is a little wetter than the NAM but nothing major.

It wont matter what time the clipper rolls thru..the warm advection out ahead of the system will be strong enough to cause a rain to snow situation at any hour of the day.

Lol..looking at GFS ensemble guidance out to hour 180 there is no end in sight to this train of clippers! This will mean pretty sustained cold as long as the polar vortex stays near Hudson bay and these clippers keep diving southeastward out of Canada thus delivering the cold air from that vortex.

Clipper Train 2013 - Page 4 Empty February 9-12th Potential Winter Storm?

Post by LoganMulti12 2013-02-01, 9:45 pm

MOVED THIS POST from a newly created and unneedeed topic as the system he is referring to is covered by this thread

So, some of the model are having some type of storm in that time frame the last time I check the models, which was two days ago. If this storm does comes together it looks like it can effect the lower Midwest (ex. Chicago), towards the Mid-Atlantic, and probably the Northeast as well. I COULD BE WRONG, because I haven't been online looking at the models lately but I hope this comes true. Also February 7-8-9, 2013 Clipper System looks Interesting

Toot wrote:Yeah..its a clipper system and we already have a thread for that. No need for two threads about the same systems stupid

I'm out of town, in Chattanooga and N Georgia tomorrow and Sunday. I noticed NWS in Nashville is saying 2-4 inches for their plateau counties. MRX says 1-2 for back home in my area. Since I'm out of town this will probably be the biggest snow of the year up there.

IDK John..if we can get the NAO to cooperate there will be the possibility for a southern stream winter system..but of course we will need -NAO Greenland blocking

It's looking pretty good from 40 south on the radar. Temps are very cold. MRX probably missed by not issuing a WWA for Knox area.
