Re: Possible April Freeze
Noticed an unexpected area of clouds dropping south out of Kentucky. Forecasts for that area called for a sunny day, but are overcast, instead. Not sure if the clouds will dissipate after sunset, but if not, and they move over us, temps may be held up a bit. In any event, still looks like a chilly night.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Looks like the thin cumulus clouds are waning and alot of places will drop down to near or below freezing tonight. All these early gardens are in trouble

Re: Possible April Freeze
Woke up to 33F. No frost on the ground, mainly due to the canopy of trees. There is some frost on the windshield this morning. Noticed Knoxville (TYS) was 36, while Jefferson City (wunderground.com) is 27.2. Ouch.
Sunrise still an hour away, so will probably settle down to just below freezing here for a very short duration.

I am at 31 and the temperature is still going down some. There is some patchy frost but not to bad. I think we are going to be alright.

I bottomed out at 32.2F. I'm sure there are areas that dropped into the 20's, and the damage is probably more extensive in those areas. The longer the duration below freezing, the more damage that is done to plants.
I saw some fields covered in white frost morning, but all in all, not nearly as bad as April 2007.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Here NE of Chattanooga we had 36. Some patchy frost mostly on roof top. Chattanooga Airport at 7 A.M. had 40 degrees. Not sure if it drop any more at the Airport. So the way things look around here we were lucky. On the Mt tops around Chattanooga it was in the upper 20's...... Have a good day everyone.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Parts of Kentucky took a dive deep into the 20's. Damage probably pretty widespread in that neck of the woods...

Re: Possible April Freeze
Got down to 35F this morning. Again, no visible frost except on the car windshield. I guess the tree canopy has a benefit beyond summertime shade, as it kept the damaging frost formation to a minimum, while down the road, the fields were white yet again this morning.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Ended up with lows of 31, 26 and 32 the last three days. Heavy bloom damage, and some leaf damage. No apples for me again this year.

Re: Possible April Freeze
I was pretty lucky. Even with lows near freezing here, there was very little frost. I had one tree that showed a little frost nip, but that was it.
I wonder how the apple orchard in Cocke county fared? There is also a very large orchard just west of Somerset, Ky. that my folks go to every year. Hope they didn't have a lot of damage to this year's crop of apples. They were in the 20's up there two or three nights in a row.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Carvers Apple Orchard (Cocke county) probably took a pretty hard hit unless they took some kind of precautions. I know those trees were in heavy blooom when this occured so I wouls say they have considerable damage
Re: Possible April Freeze
Yet another widespread freeze/frost looks like an increasing possibility in about a weeks time. Go away cold!!

Re: Possible April Freeze
That would be considered a late season freeze, as the 15th is usually seen as the average last date for frost around here. Not to mention, the nights are getting shorter. Hopefully, it will go away as it draws closer.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Several models are also showing the chance of some mountain snow showers around the 23rd. The CMC is way cold for this time of year.
Hopefully it has completely lost its mind

Wow. Certainly looks as if it has been smokin' something, or got a screw lose somewhere. Those troughs are deeeeeeep. Didn't see anything that extreme all winter.

Re: Possible April Freeze
Some of the 12z ensembles were SUPER cold for this time of year while the 18z's were just a little cold.
The 12z euro gets pretty cold also...look how massive that ridge is out west
It gets even taller as it centers itself over the central US
Highly amplifed pattern seems to be a given.... exactly where this longwave pattern sets up will ultimately decide how cold we go.

Yep, Euro was cold as well. I feel bad for the farmers, but I can't say that I don't enjoy these cool spring days.
