Happy New Year Everyone! Time to start a new thread for January. Let's hope we can finally put some snow measurements here! Today is sure a close call, as when I woke up it was 33 and rainy. uggh so close but yet so far.

Re: January Observations
Well Happy New Year to everyone. Time to start a new beginning. Woke up to 42 degrees and rain. Have gotten .44 of an inch so far. Hoping in January the weather for us brings some good snows. Looks like after this rain event it may dry out for a few days. HNY EVERYONE.

Re: January Observations
The inversion strikes again, lol. Clouds just didn't scatter out today. Hence the temps didn't go anywhere today despite mid 40s being forecast. Currently 36 degrees here. I see no reason to think clouds will go away like MRX is saying overnight. Man, they are really taking it on the chin this year with these clearing situations.

Re: January Observations
Anyone paying attention to how cold it has got in the NE. These represent nocturnal lows overnight with some places 30-40 degrees below normal
Re: January Observations
^^ Toot yeah i have been looking at that the past week or so. i’m leaving for a trip the 19th i think, going to western New York close to buffalo to see family and stuff. they have about 12” of snow already and looks like they will be getting another 1 to 3” today jan 3rd and more sunday. thats what the weather channel is saying at least.

Re: January Observations
Stay cloudy all day yesterday. Sun has finally come out about 11 a.m. today. Got down to 36. Right now sitting at 41 degrees. Looking at one chart showing a small ULL heading up to the north of us with nothing here in the next day or 3 . Can't remember what day i look at. Have a good day.

Re: January Observations
I'm gonna go with a low of 23 here. Today's high was 41.9, and I'll hit today's low around midnight. This morning's low was 33.2.
Re: January Observations

Re: January Observations
I had 25 this A.M. As of 12:15 p.m. 42 clear sky's bright sunshine. First real day with full sun in i don't know how long. Long range looks like some good rains coming in the next week. Have a great day.

Re: January Observations
Down to 21.5 at 7:35 this morning, so it rounds off at 22. Missed it by 1 degree. Today's high was 41.3. Today's max pressure was 30.50" around 11:20 this morning.
Re: January Observations
That is some pretty high pressure 30.50. The temp is already dropping down pretty fast, as it's now 33 at my house. Prob. going to be another low 20's kind of night. Interesting to note, we are just kinda getting started with winter and have already had more hard freezes than last winter in total. These 20-25 degree mornings really help the fruit trees, esp. apples set fruit for next year. Bring em' on, we need them!

Re: January Observations
I just checked Oak Ridge (KOQT), and they had a max pressure of 30.50 at the 10 and 11 AM hour, so my readings must be right. TYS showed a max pressure of 30.45, but I'm a lot closer to Oak Ridge than TYS. I guess if I was going to try to be perfect, my max might have been 30.48?
Re: January Observations
The graph looks like you hit 30.51 to my eyes. Meanwhile I am currently setting at 30.33Hg or 1027.4 Mb and rising..but im not sure how accurate my programming is on the barometric pressure settings part of my weather station. I do know I cant stand to see others measure pressure or give pressure readings in inches or Hg..dont know why that bothers me but it does
Re: January Observations
Temp is falling like a rock. Already 26 degrees. We are nearing the dp though, so the fall should slow down. However, if the winds stay down, the clouds stay away, we could drop to 18 or so. However, I'm gonna go with 20. We'll see where we end up.

Re: January Observations
LOL, I'm old school I guess. the metric system! I guess I am just used to using 29.92 as mean sea level pressure. However, I do realize metric is used almost exclusively in science.
No, it is was 30.50". See here: http://classic.wunderground.com/history/airport/KOQT/2013/1/4/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA
And the chart above is from Oak Ridge. Doesn't Hg and MB yield the same reading?
Currently 30.45" and rising here.
Interesting discussion about the artic blast coming around the 19th although IMO it's WAY too far out to start drooling yet.
BTW, going for a low of 24 tonight.

Re: January Observations
Lol im the oddball..I think most still use the standard inches when measuring barometric pressure
I think its Hg is the same as inches. hPa is the same as Mb
BTW..I will go with 19 tonight

Re: January Observations
19 sounds good. I'm already at 22. I know its gonna slow down, but wow if it don't, may be more like 15 or 16.

Re: January Observations
I have a low of 21.3 missing my projected low of 24 by 3 degrees. I screwed the pooch on this one. LOL.
Going to try for a low of 33 tonight.
