LMFAO
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
335 AM CDT SUN MAR 18 2012
.DISCUSSION...A WEAK SHORTWAVE OVER THE OH/TN VALLEYS CONTINUES TO
TRAVEL NEWD...PUSHING MOST OF THE MID/HI LEVEL MOISTURE INTO THE
UPPER OH VALLEY AND GREAT LAKES. THUS I HAVE SHOWN A DECREASING
POP FOR TODAY AS THE DRIER AIR MOVES IN. I KNOW...I ENDED A
SENTENCE WITH A PREPOSITION...BUT..ACCORDING TO "GRAMMAR GIRL"
IT`S SOMETIMES OK TO DO THAT.{
LOOKING WEST...THE UPPER TROUGH ALONG THE WEST COAST IS LOOKING
VERY BODACIOUS. FOR THE MIT GRADS...THATS DEEP...ENERGETIC AND
NEGATIVELY TILTED. MOTHER NATURE PULLS MOST OF THE TROUGH NEWD
THROUGH THE NRN ROCKIES/PLAINS. BUT WAIT...SHE FORGOT SOMETHING
AND BY WED AM IT`S SITTING OVER THE SRN PLAINS. IT`S LIKE SHE
DIDN`T BRING HER DOGGIE BAG AND JUST DECIDED TO DISCRETELY WALK
AWAY.
SO THE PILE OF...ENERGY...SITTING OVER THE SRN PLAINS EVENTUALLY
PUSHES ENEWD INTO THE OH/TN VALLEYS ON THU NGT AND FRI. ON THU
MORNING THE GFS AND ECM ARE IN DECENT AGREEMENT ON THE POSITION OF
THIS CUTOFF LOW. BUT THAT DOESN`T LAST LONG. THE ECM INVENTS A
VIGOROUS WAVE IN THE NRN STREAM TO DROP THROUGH THE GREAT LAKES
AND PUSH THE LOW TOWARD THE SE COAST BY SAT EVE. WHILE THE GFS...
SORT KICKS THE CAN...ERR LOW...DOWN THE ROAD. LAGGING BEHIND ABOUT
24 HRS. MY CRYSTAL BALL IS IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS...BUT RECENT STUDIES
HAVE SHOWN THAT THE ECM VERIFIES A BIT BETTER...SO I HAVE SHOWN A
DECREASING POP ON SAT AND DRY ON SUN. MORE GOOD NEWS...TEMPS FOR
FRI-SUN WILL DROP TO ONLY 5-8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL INSTEAD OF THE
CURRENT 15-20 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. WELL THAT`S ALL THE METEOROLOGY
MY LITTLE BRAIN CAN MUSTER AT THIS EARLY HOUR. CIAO.

Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Ran my air conditioner yesterday. Yea, time for the power bill to rise, but even then my gas bill this past NON-Winter was pretty tame. Guess I'll be making up for it now. I cannot be sleeping or relaxing in the heat!

Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Heads up. Some stout little storms have popped up in East TN. When ever they come from the east like this, better watch out.
Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Not warned any longer but getting a sweet light and sound show just to my north and east. Nice breeze cooled everything off too.
Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
I'm always a ham for homemade videos. Bust that sucker out! And what is an orographic storm if you don't mind me asking?
Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Orographic thunderstorms are caused by unstable air that is forced upward by the mountains. In this case air was forced up on the NC side of the Smokies and the steering currents were westward. I still aint fooled with video yet...its really nothing more than some cool lightning shots...I may get around to it tonight tho

That... is awesome. I can always depend on you to blow my mind.
(seriously, it didn't occur to me that those were mountain generated storms, cool stuff)

I'm still trying to assemble the various pieces of my mind after learning that the hail core is always in the northern part of a super cell. So yes, you've taught me many things young padawan. Give me a few years and I'll be a verifiable walking badass fountain of weather knowledge!

Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
This warmth is becoming VERY anomalous... some places in the Northern U.S have experienced temps 45 degrees above normal shattering very old record highs and there is stil NO guidance sign of anything springlike. The summer like pattern is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
I must say I am confounded by this weather pattern... I have never seen anything like it this early.Toot wrote:This warmth is becoming VERY anomalous... some places in the Northern U.S have experienced temps 45 degrees above normal shattering very old record highs and there is stil NO guidance sign of anything springlike. Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Nasa is launching rockets of some kind around midnight tonight...supposed to be able to see them light up the sky...as for me im going to bed
http://www.space.com/14953-nasa-rockets-east-coast-skywatching-tips.html
NASA is once again hoping to launch five rockets in just over five minutes this week — a space barrage that promises to put on a spectacular midnight light show of luminescent vapor trails above the U.S. East Coast — but only if Mother Nature cooperates.
After a series of delays due to bad weather and a technical glitch, NASA is aiming to launch the five-rocket barrage tonight (March 20). The sky display may puzzle and amaze some unsuspecting observers, so before you call to your local news or police, here is why this is happening and when you may see it.
The bright phenomenon will be caused by NASA's Anomalous Transport Rocket Experiment (ATREX), which will launch five chemical-bearing suborbital rockets in about five minutes to test the flow of winds and electrical currents at high altitudes. The rockets will blast off from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Va., on the Atlantic coast during a window that opens each at midnight EDT (0400 GMT) and closes at 5:06 a.m. EDT (0906GMT).

Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
i have been doing alot of reading on this pattern we seem to be almost stuck in, alot of profesional mets are saying as we head into april... april may even be cooler than average a tad... brett anderson says the strong ridge of high pressure off the atlantic coast finally breaks down... we see about that... hopefully, april brings us some nice severe weather events as we get into more of a clash of air masses that would form big lows coming out of the southern rockies.

You knew about this feature, you just didn't know you knew about it.
Its just like NW flow upslope convective snow showers. When you get a east/southeast flow, the apps create the lift needed for convection to develop.

Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Much of the same boring wx pattern form the euro and gfs. We need the backwards Omega pattern across the conus for organized outbreaks this year. PNA ridge sharp Central Trough and a narrow se based ridge...I dont see that happening anytime soon
Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
We will have to watch this booger...could be a potentially dangerous storm but right now take it with a whole salt shaker...lol
Re: Spring 2012 weather discussion
Storms firing in the OH Valley and are expected to move through the east TN area later on tonight...be interesting to see what they look like then. Right now there have been and are currently some nice hailers popping
