Winter Wx Discussion 2013/14

Ended up with about 5 inches here in Newport with the biggest flakes falling of the night. Had a blast driving in it last night too..lol Man..it has been a cold winter!! Where is the warm weather at? Im done..lol

I'm with you toot. I love the snow but geez enough with the extreme cold. Looking forward to spring and summer.

after going over long range model data... looks to me winter isn't going to go away easy this year... fact it may just iing to start for west tn over the next 2 weeks... and that hurts me coming from a severe lover ... jb thinks even the coldest air hasn't came yet for the eastern country... from the Tennessee valley north for february

The Euro just crushes all of Tennessee in the day 8-10 time frame. GFS crushes Western NC around the same time, and hits Eastern Tennessee pretty hard but leaves much less back west of the Plateau.

If the Euro came to pass, most of us would probably talk about it for years like the 1993 storm totals.

Bring it on!!! If ever there was a winter that could do it, this is the one, with all the cold air available in Canada and a W coast ridge that wants to hang on and hang on. Glad to finally see the Southern stream get going, that was one thing that had been missing with these blasts of cold until now!! If it weren't for that ULL in Arizona and the Baja low, we would have just had a dry frontal passage! Nothing better to kick off the return to the southern stream than a good old fashioned snow storm!

No please make it go away. I want sever storms, golf and fishing.

Lowest temp of the winter for me this morning with 2.7 degrees. Seen something that don't happen very often. The air freezing and falling like little snow crystals . I have seen it before but it been many years ago.     

-3' at my house. Coldest I remember post 85'.

Ah the old ice crystals I saw some yesterday and I had seen them during the first cold blast too! Really cool. Anyone else see the light pillars Tues night? They were really cool. I didn't know what it was until Todd Howell showed some similar ones in the news that night

1.2 was my low this morning. Hey, keep the snow and cold coming. Spring will inevitably arrive soon enough, then the dreaded heat and humidity of summer.

Hope to see an active spring and mild summer this year though.

Decent change for a snow event, north of 40, especially for areas like Clarksville by Sunday night. Something to keep an eye on for now.

Not saying there aint a chance for some light snow accums but I dont trust the euro as far as I can throw it! Its definately smoking some good sh** here lately!

I know this is a Tenn weather forum, but do we have some people from Bama on here??? I know most have heard or i have heard of James Spann. I watch his video's a lot and he does a pretty good job of showing models runs 10 days or more out. Of course we all know 10 days out or more is call voodoo land forecasting and he says that. But if you have not check him out, give him a try. Of course he missed this weeks snow, but hey so did many others. He does talk about Tenn weather some also. He says no big snows in the next week or so.

Does anybody see anything they like about the storm next weekend. Maybe next Fri, Sat, Sun?

No! The models will be wrong there are to many systems coming in front of this one. The system for tue is just now fixing to come ashore out west so the models will come to better agreement over this maybe tonight. Also if any of these come south which would have to happen for us to get snow. The se ridge will have to relax some. Until that happens it will be cutters or app runners which give west tn snow. For now just wait and see it is a tough call

I think our best chance for snow will be sun night for middle tn. That is out of the next 2 storms. If you look at the model trends with the snowfall for the next 10 days or so they all have went more north,northwest with the accum. From what was showing just a few days ago. Things have to come together just right for us to have a great snowstorm and I just don't see that happening yet.

If the 1-3" that is forecast comes to be for my area. That cold front better come though now. The models have trended warmer with this storm as well and north. That even my snow chance with this is not looking so great anymore!

  

yes, I have already given up on the next three systems. I was hoping the ridge would have time to relax before next weekend and the cold would sweep back down too.

Even at that ,though, it's just a hope. I don't think the support is there for us. We need a break or two to get that big winter store and like you said the models are not swinging our way right now.

Just looking at the new NaM! It looks to be the same as last run. Arkansas though Kentucky for this one. We have cold rain ending as a snow shower! Im hoping for a white ground Monday morning

What a waste 33 and raining the last 4 hrs.

39.2 here. I didn't expect any snow or ice tonight, but it looks like we're in for a good soaking tonight. 0.67" so far, and it's 11:35pm. Would not be surprised to end up with 2.0-2.5" for the storm total.

Big time rains here last night. 2.63 IMBY. Weathermen are saying by end of week we could rack up 5 to 7 inches of rain. Also have a question if anyone would like to answers it. When it snow the other day, i got 1.5 inches of snow. Highest the temp got all day was 24. As i said i got 1.5 inches of snow. Brought the rain gauge in melted the snow down and had 0.15 hundredths of and inch of water. So we are talking at 32 degrees a 10:1 ratio @32 degrees which it was not. Very strange. At 24 degrees they should be less water am thinking. Any ideals on this?????
