Feb 13th/14th 2012 Snow/ice Threat

This is one of those events were a few degrees diffrent in forecast either way can change alot. If we stay 3 degrees colder that will keep us below freezing a little bit longer and that may be all it takes to get a good snow down to keep temps from even rising much untill the biggest part of precip is out. Ofc we could get warmer and all of this start and end as plain ole cold rain.. But yea will be fun to watch this tomorrow.

Interesting..The weather channel is calling for 1-2 of snow for Oak Ridge http://www.weather.com/weather/today/37830:4:US ..But then for Knoxville it says <1 inch http://www.weather.com/weather/today/Knoxville+TN+USTN0268 ..Hmmm...Does Oak Ridge really stand a better chance of accumulating snow right now?
EDIT: Oh dear..Now I am really confused on what to believe..Watching channel 10 (WBIR), and channel 8 (WVLT)- BOTH meteorologist this morning said to expect a couple of flurries but that is it..Sheww, I sure hope they are wrong!!

I guess we will see what we'll see. NWS has a SPS out for mid-TN, WWA for west TN and also 1-2 counties and extreme SE TN. OHX says Plateau should stay all snow until the change over to rain on tuesday, little to no accumulations at this time. I hope the snowfall is the BIG flake variety. Nice pics to take.

The EURO and the RUC are much colder then the NAM. I mean if the NAM is to be believe it is barely going to snow in northwest tennessee.
One thing to note is that there is snow falling in Shrevoport,LA right now that was not modeled or forecasted.

Looks like frozen precip is pretty far south this morning near the gulf coast..





Be interesting on how this plays out...MRX put WWA out for a couple of counties in SE TN.

Is the bunch of precip over in W TN virga? (Everytime I think of virga, I get it messed up with viagra.

if the cloud cover gets here quicker , won't that keep our temps from rising?

For once the east TN valley has a better shot at being colder than the higher elevations tonight when WAA moves in

So I realize that much of the returns moving in from east Arkansas will be eaten up by the dry air. But, since it's already snowing in central Arkansas is it safe to say this is moving a bit quicker than expected? How soon do you think, say Jackson, could see precip hit the ground?

Already reports of sleet in northern Mississippi.

our friend dyersburg weather may see something a little earler than me, he is about 45 miles to my nw. i hear sleet being reported also down in n. miss. hopefully we can get it earlier that i predicted...

just stepped outside in a pair of shorts, i just got up by the way,lol. colder than crap out... were overcast here now, but looking off to my west,,, the cloud deck is getting much lower and darker... good sign there

A moment ago it was still 18 degrees in Paris when I checked in with my family there. Hard to believe it's going to get to the upper 30s before the precip hits but I guess we'll see shortly.

i agree with you stove, hopefully its can get here some sooner... key is if we can keep the dp some lower than the ambient temp, we can get that good ole evaporatiing cooling process... meg has hinted on this also.

Radar sure seems to be moving faster than this.

a big slug of precip knocking on the door at the miss.river fixing to cross over here in west tn. thats all low level moisture also.

It's really warming up out there I think we will get into the 40's. And I hate the image stove thats just like the other one with the snow all north and west of mid tennessee and we still in the 40s at that time too.
